2/28/10–Creepy, yet Cool

We had our church small group gathering at our friends P & C’s house this evening.  They have a cool tree in their front yard, and when we said something about it being a great climbing tree, C promptly took me to the back yard to see the tree back there.  This tree is straight out of a horror film, but it’s so cool at the same time.  My first thought was of the tree in Poltergeist, and hoping it wasn’t going to eat Robbie.  It’s just a cool tree.  And I’m jealous because with the exception of my cherry tree (see post from 2/8 “Tree in Winter”), we have ugly trees in our yard.

2/27/10–Ya Say it’s Your Birthday?

It’s my birthday, too, yeah!  And it was a wonderful day.  Shawn and the boys worked very hard to make sure I had a special birthday.  I slept in (yay!), and Shawn made omelets for breakfast.  I got some very thoughtful gifts–yay Cake Wrecks book!–and I can smell the flowers Shawn’s grandparents got me from across the room.  I got a birthday cake that my boys decorated.  It’s the most beautiful birthday cake I’ve ever had.  We went to see a movie I wanted to see; When in Rome was pretty good.  And dinner at Olive Garden.  I’m very blessed to have such a wonderful family.  They spoiled me today.

2/26/10–Special Time

I had the day off from work today, so I used some of my precious time to do something special.  I had lunch with Duncan at school today.  It was a very special time for both of us.  Duncan is used to seeing other moms & dads come eat lunch with their kids.  But due to my school schedule being the same as Duncan’s and Shawn working 45 minutes away, neither of us have had the chance to do this before.  Duncan was very excited to have me there.  He hugged me every couple of minutes, and he & his friends told me about games they play at recess and all sorts of other things that are important to 1st grade boys.  I opened a thermos that a dad had put on too tightly this morning and  opened someone’s Go-gurt.  And when I walked back to the classroom with the kids, one of Duncan’s friends (the little boy in this picture) said to me, “Bye Mrs. Craig.”  It was very sweet.  The sweetest thing, though, was the big hug I got from Duncan when I left.  I wonder how much longer I’ll get those enthusiastic hugs when I visit him at school?  How long I have before hugs from mom are embarrassing?  I hope it’s a long time.  I love my sweet boy.

2/25/10–Amen

We say prayers as a family every night at the boys’ bedtime.  We go around and make prayer requests that either thank God for something good that happened during the day, or ask for His help with something.  Now that Jack is talking more, he gets in on it, and he has to say a prayer after Duncan says his.  Jack’s prayers usually go something like this:  “Dear God, thank you fadaladily (family), thank you my food feel better today,  thank you my tummy hurt today.  In DJesuh name, amen.”  It’s the cutest thing, and very hard to keep a straight face.  But he loves to say his prayers, and I know God loves it, too.

2/24/10–Second Choice

You’re not getting the post I wanted to share today, but my second choice. I got a cute video on my phone of Jack singing “Jesus Loves Me.” This site wouldn’t let me insert the video from the computer I’m using. It wasn’t in a proper format, I guess. 😦 If you want to see it, it’s on my Facebook page.

On another note, I had a really long day at work today. Meetings before AND after school. Since Shawn & got home around the same time, I stopped at Orient Express (best Chinese in Joplin!) for sesame chicken, egg rolls, and crab rangoon. The boys had Happy Meals. Orient Express is always crazy busy…it’s delish, and they’re fast. I love this mural on the side of the building.

2/23/10–One of my Favorite Things

I discovered this website by accident…I don’t even remember how I found it.  It’s called Cake Wrecks.  It’s a blog of “professional” cakes that are totally screwed up.  I can’t go a day without reading the newest post.  It always makes me laugh, especially the captions.  The cool thing is, on Sundays, the post is of AMAZING cakes.  You have to check it out!

Here are a few samples of some funny wrecks:

2/22/10–My Goofy Family

So I had the camera sitting on the table at supper.  Duncan wanted me to snap a picture of him, and he gave me the goofiest face.  He then wanted to take my picture…3 times.  I had to smile, make a funny face, and make a mad face.  That got us going…Shawn was next.  We got his smile, but Duncan had trouble with the camera for the funny face pic, and Shawn couldn’t hold it anymore.  Jack got tickled, and had to do the funny face picture with his daddy.  We all need more moments like this.  No worries, just fun.

2/21/10–Today’s Only Shot

I was slacking today.  I only took one picture.  We had lunch at Del Rio (yay queso!), and I got this cute picture of Jack “reading” his menu.

2/20/10–Curling is Cool

Curling is one of those sports you forget about until the Winter Olympics.  Shawn has become a curling nerd.  It was on all day today.  And I learned something.  Yes, it’s unusual, but it’s kinda cool, too.  There is a lot of strategy involved.  We found ourselves getting excited watching the U.S. games (draws, to use curling lingo)…both of whom won today.  Go USA!  If you’re curious, it’s on CNBC all day.

We will probably forget about it in 2 weeks, then we’ll be curling experts again at the next Winter Olympics.  I find it’s usually that way with sports we typically only watch during the Olympics.

2/19/10–I Miss You, Fajita Pita

Ahh, dinner at Chili’s tonight.  It seems like such a little thing, but we don’t have a Chili’s in Joplin.  I have to wait until we go to Pittsburg to get me some Chili’s.  Got my southwestern eggrolls, which I don’t have to share because I’m the only one who likes them!  They’ve changed the menu, though, and they don’t have my fajita pitas anymore!  The fajita pita has been my favorite item at Chili’s for 10 years, and now it’s gone.  Why do my favorite things always have to go away?  I still love you, though, Chili’s!
